About
Hi folks,
More notes from the margins . . .
This is a blog about the NY I knew best, the NY of the late 80′s and 90′s. I’m old to have come here as a young guy, when the big bad NY of legend was being tamed. It didn’t really get tame until a couple of years ago but I missed most of the 00′s since I was somewhere else. NY now baffles me, but I’ll jump back and forth trying to figure it all out. And travel to different cities when it’s relevant (or I can manage it).
Since the New York I knew best of that era was bohemian New York, I’ll focus most of all on that. The East Village certainly, but beyond to Brooklyn, Tribeca, wherever. New York was in a state of flux then, just as it is now. My questions are, ultimately, whither New York? Whither subculture?
About me: I’m a writer, I’ve been hiding out in this city for over twenty years. I’ll try to post a couple of times a week. But hey, I’m busy.
You can also look through the original City of Strangers blog right here.
This site is still under construction to some extent so there’ll be changes and additions in the weeks ahead.
